There is a lot to look forward to right now, but one might be a little harder to adjust to. As exciting as it is to have more daylight, springing our clocks forward means we lose an hour of sleep and it can take a couple of days for our body to adjust to the new change. Luckily, we live in modern times and most of our devices have the technology to have this done on its own – we just have to make sure our surrounding clocks are changed (just in case you need a reminder of what to update: car clocks, stoves, microwaves, nightstand clocks, etc..). With the technology we have – IF you use your mobile device as an alarm clock you should be fine and not have to worry about waking up late! The only thing you will have to worry about is how you will feel throughout the day!
Daylight savings happens every year so many of us prepare for the time change. Even though we are prepared to lose an hour or gain an hour, springing our clocks forward an hour seems to be more challenging than switching our clocks back an hour and gaining an extra hour of sleep – who can complain about that!
To help get you through the time change, here are some things you can do to help prepare!
– 7- 10 days prior to the official day to spring our clocks forward, got to bed earlier to help get your body used to sleeping earlier.
– 7-10 days earlier try waking up about 15 minutes earlier and add to it each day – If you can do the full hour more power to ya!
– Change window drapes to ensure the bedrooms are as dark as possible once the time has changed, making it easier to fall asleep. The darker the room the easier it is to fall asleep.
– Implement a new routine for the whole family, to ensure everyone has enough time to wind down and relax before bedtime.
These are just some recommendations that can assist you with the time change but having more time in the day means more fun! With COVID cases quickly declining, vaccination rates increase, we are seeing COVID restrictions being lifted more and more! Businesses, restaurants, schools, malls, and theme parks are all beginning to open just in time for spring break and summer. These tend to be just like the holidays where people tend to travel a lot. Many travel restrictions have been lifted as well but just as the local communities and counties every place is different – so before making plans check if and what the restrictions are. We are excited that life seems to be springing forward but we should also continue to practice social distancing, get vaccinated when we are eligible, wash our hands, avoid unnecessary travel, stay home if we are sick and WEAR A MASK!
Let’s make sure we stay on the right path and get through this together, look how far we have come! Stay safe everyone!
