If you are in the engineering profession and looking for a new job, you may consider working with a staffing agency.

An engineering staffing agency can take a lot of the work and frustration out of the job search. The staffing agency is paid by the company to find good candidates for their engineering positions, so the recruiter will work hard to find a good fit for you.

Before you start working with one of these agencies, keep a few tips in mind for the best results.

Keep Good Records

When you talk to several recruiters about engineering jobs, be sure that you know which company your resume is being submitted to. You should have the company name, job title, job description, and the date the engineering recruiter submitted you for the job.

Consent Needed For Your Resume To Be Sent

Your engineering recruiter should ask you before sending your resume for a job. Some recruiters may turn in your resume to companies and not tell you. It is possible you could have your resume submitted twice in this scenario, which makes you look unprofessional.

Also note that submitting your resume twice for the same position will not increase your chances of being hired.

Sign A Candidate Agreement

If you are asked to sign an agreement with the engineering recruiter, it is fine to do that. The recruiting company may be using several engineering recruiters. This agreement will protect you from other agencies that could try to send your resume without you knowing about it.

The agreement also shields the agency that is working with you from other agencies sending in your resume without getting your consent.

Do Not Submit Your Resume to the Recruiter and Company

It is not a good thing to apply for one job through the company and the engineering recruiter. If you apply directly to the company they will not look at your resume from the recruiter. It will save you time as well as your recruiter’s time.

The best idea if you see a position listed at the company site and at your engineering recruiter is to apply through the staffing agency. The staffing agency is working on your behalf and may push them to give you an interview. Sending the resume through the company website may result in it being in a big pile that no one looks at.

Keep these ideas in mind when you are looking for a job with engineering recruiter and soon a great job will be yours!
