Let’s look at the bright side of the pandemic for a change. I know, “what’s positive about being in a pandemic?” well, let’s come together and think about all the things we are currently doing versus what we were doing prior the pandemic. Pre – quarantine or should I say, prior the COVID -19 pandemic, a lot of us were constantly on the go. We were always in the rush to get to work on time, getting the kids ready for school, dropping them off, or rushing to make that 8 am meeting, rushing home to help the kids with homework, make dinner and the list goes on. But, if you see with just those few examples of what looks like daily tasks, can you see where someone can relax in between all that?
At the beginning of the pandemic, everything shut down including restaurants and it only seemed that grocery stores remained opened. We had to adapt to buying only the essential needs for your family. We had to think about buying food that would hold your family over for a period of time such as nonperishable foods, that was new to all of us. We did not know what to expect at the beginning and how long the pandemic was going to last, if there was going to be a shortage on food, cleaning supplies, or essential toiletries. As you can imagine and most likely felt, we were stressed, overwhelmed, and worried about the safety and health of our loved ones. Luckily, we were in a position that we did not have a food shortage and we were able to keep grocery stores open. But, that was not the only thing we were worried about; income, income weighed heavily on some of us, how were we going to pay our rent/ mortgages, car payments, groceries if many were out of a job? Is there a positive to the pandemic we are in? As we understand the impact it had on all of us, and to some the impact was greater, we have all managed to the best that we can and are getting through this.
Now that we went back to a scary moment in time, lets fast forward to where we are now, today, and think about the memories we have been able to create. Looking at the glass half full instead of half empty can hopefully help you think about the positives the pandemic has brought. Here are some positive experiences we were able to gather, we hope you can relate.
· Work from home
o Many have dreamt about the ability to work from home and now they are able to experience that. Are you able to work from home? Do you prefer to work back at the office? Do you find yourself more productive at home? Due to the pandemic some are now able to answer these questions!
· Spending quality time with your family
o Is there such thing as too much time with family? (I’m sure this made you laugh a little) Well, I am sure that being a house with the same people almost 24/7 can be much at times but if you think about it, you now know more about your family members and are probably closer than ever!
· Your Savings account is looking pretty nice!
o Now that are you limited to going out, I’m sure you haven’t been able to use the phrases “It’s only $5” or “it’s a great deal” very often. Yes, of course there’s always online shopping but going to the store I think everyone can attest to buying something they didn’t plan on getting but end up getting it anyways. So, in the beginning of Quarantine you were able to save money on:
§ Gas
§ Food!
· Dining out / Take out
§ Coffee runs
§ Miscellaneous products that you don’t really need but wanted.
· Picking up a new hobby
o Now that you have more time, pick up that hobby you always wanted to try!
Now these are only five positives that we put on here, but there are many more. It is important that we stay positive during the pandemic, it will help you get through the bad days. What are some positives you can think of?
