Happy Holidays everyone!
Just a few days our from Christmas and as exciting as that may seem, the number of COVID cases have increased since Thanksgiving weekend. The number of COVID cases has not just been the talk of the town lately but as you may have heard many healthcare personnel and elderly folks have already been given the COVID vaccine in the past week! Although, we have a vaccine, we are limited on the supply at the moment and it has been decided that the initial supply be given to Healthcare personnel and long-term care facility Residents first. They are working to provide larger quantities so that everyone can be vaccinated in the near future.
Things you should know about the Vaccine:
The vaccine is a two-step process. You will receive the initial vaccine on your arm and then come back for the second round 3 weeks later to get the most protection.
Side Effects – The side effects of the vaccine are like that of the Flu vaccine and may affect your ability to perform your daily activities but will go away within a couple days. To get more information on what you should expect, please visit this helpful link from the CDC website on side effects. This page will provide you information on the common side affects in which you may or may not endure at the point of vaccine and throughout the day(s).
Cost – Per the CDC vaccine doses have been purchased by taxpayer dollars and will be given at no cost to the American people. However, medical providers can charge an administration fee for administrating the vaccine to an individual. Medical providers can be reimbursed by your private or public insurance.
For many of us, we may or may not fit the category to receive the vaccine now, but we can still do our part and make sure to follow the guidelines and recommendations from our local officials. We should all continue to wear our mask (over our nose, mouth and under our chins), maintain social distance from others (6- feet distance, and avoid crowds), and wash/ sanitize our hands often.
The Holidays are here and all we want is for our friends and family to be in good health and be safe. Depending on your location, your State/ town/ city may have restrictions that have put in place to keep the public safe, but it is up to the people to follow the rules. Yes, the holidays are here. Yes, we all want to be with family and friends. Yes, we want to go back to the way things were, but we are here, and we need to stand together, do our part, put yourself and others safety above all. There are many holiday activities that can be done while being safe.
As we continue to move forward and find different ways to enjoy life through the pandemic, we are here for you and will try to keep you updated on the latest news, and ideas for you and your family to enjoy the Holidays as much as possible this year.
